I fail

It’s been about a year since I’ve last written on this blog- I used to be such an active blogger.  Ah, those days when I had time to relax, make pretty layouts and learn new web techniques.  And now I just lie in bed when I get home and try not to think about work.  *sigh*

Well I’m still here.  I guess this is my yearly post to say hi.  Hello.  :)

Trying to concentrate and failing

Today was supposed to be “getting shit done day” but I’m failing miserably. I’m supposed to study hard and go to the gym but all I’m achieving is chatting online, doing online shopping (more like window shopping, I’m trying to save money), eating too much food and drinking too much coffee. I did manage to upload a new theme for this blog though- ain’t it pretty? I love trees. :D

Last night I went to the gym at 11:30 pm. It’s so much fun and brings back old memories since it’s something I’d do if I were still in school. I wish I could go back to those days of irregular hours and walking outdoors in the sun during the afternoon. Or meeting friends at the student center or walking around campus and bumping into people I haven’t seen in forever. Of course it comes with drawbacks such as all nighters, annoying homework assignments and sitting through boring lectures. But then if I were still going to school, I can play badminton for our team which gives me motivation to get better by playing 4 hours a day, 4 times a week (and then ruining it by eating out with teammates afterwards). Those were some crazy fun days. Now I’m stuck at a computer for 8 hours a day and dealing with clients, some who like to yell. *sigh*

Anyhow, the gym was really productive last night. I was only able to go so late at night because I have the day off today. My muscles are sore and I feel so good about myself, especially since I “ran” 4 miles in the morning. When I mean “ran”, I mean more like walk/run since the sun was beaming down so hard on me and sapped all my energy away. That’ll teach me to go running at high noon. When I woke up this morning, Dave wanted to go to Subway so I went with him and got a carved turkey sandwich. It was really yummy (and semi-decently healthy) but I got two cookies with it which was definately not healthy. I’ve been craving a good cookie for quite some time now so I guess two cookies is better than buying a whole bag from the grocery store.

For the past few hours, I’ve been sitting at my desk trying to concentrate on doing work but my mind keeps wandering. I also had 2 tumblers full of coffee which doesn’t normally make me jittery but I made it so strong that I think it’s affecting me. It’s also been raining hard for the entire day and I don’t feel like doing anything at all. Gah. So unmotivated. I went online to look for bathing suits since I need a new one for summer and I think it’s pumped me up to work harder at the gym. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with my workouts, it’s mainly my eating habits that need to change (proof would be in the two cookies I just ate). Okay, gotta concentrate and motivate. That’ll be my motto for school and health plan.

Concentrate and motivate!

Welcome to Year of the Boar

Happy Chinese New Year’s! It’s technically tomorrow (Sunday) so I’m about 2 hours early (California time) but I’d probably forget. It’s year of the boar (aka pig) which is a special year for me- I was born in year of the pig. I used to hate being born in this year because my sister teased me about being chubby but now that I’ve grown up, I love being a pig. They’re so cute. <3 My sister did send me an email that said “Year of the oink oink” though. Psh!

Besides being Chinese New Year’s, it’s also a 3 day weekend- yay for President’s Day! I have plans with Maggie to go running at the lake (hopefully at least 4 miles?) and then shopping at the mall. I don’t need anything in particular but it is Maggie’s birthday the coming weekend so I might want to find something nice to wear to her birthday celebration (dinner + clubbing). I’m feeling particularly “big” today, though. I caved in and had a Chipotle burrito bol (sooo yummy) and then various snacks throughout the day. I just got back from the gym where I did damage control. I really need to get back on the wagon. :(

I found out that we had a shower stall in the downstairs bathroom at work. That was pretty exciting to me because that means I can use my lunchtime to go jogging. I’m planning to start on Tuesday and if it goes well, I’ll do it once or twice a week. I figured that I can run for 30 minutes and then shower and primp for 30 more minutes. I never even needed a long lunch- lately I’ve been using it to go to Starbucks to relax and read which is an inefficient use of my time.

Work and school

How are people able to work full time and go to school?  That’s a crazy concept to me.  I’m only working 40 hours a week and taking an “easy” class but I’m so tired all the time.  There’s no such thing as an easy class for me though.  I’m such a slow learner I have to take extra time to study the stuff.  :(  I guess it would help if I stopped spending time doing unproductive things when I could be studying huh?  Unproductive things such as blogging….

Okay, I’m off to do my assignment now…

Time to get fit

My legs and feet hurt from this weekend. On Friday afternoon, I ran 8 miles which is the most I’ve ever ran at once. Who ever knew me from a loooong time ago knows that this is a big change in attitude. I still hate running but I’m more willing to do it since I want to slim down. Everybody tells me that running is the best way to lose weight so I’m going to take a stab at it. I’m also going to take a stab at eating right. I went to the grocery store today and bought a whole bunch of healthy stuff (yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, salad) so I won’t eat out for lunch and dinner. I’m aiming for self improvement since this weekend was a real bust. I drank too much last night (again) so I’m going to give up alcohol for ONE month, exercise and eat right. Not only will it be good for my health, it’ll make my bank account fatter. :P

I woke up today (with no hangover!) at 7:30 am and was bored because nobody was awake yet.  (Apparently alcohol makes people sleep later but wakes me up in the morning.)  After puttering around for awhile, I went to the gym for a productive hour. It felt good, especially because I felt guilty for the empty calories. At night, I played badminton which is why my feet hurt. I’m sucking more than I used to which is sad… but I think I’m over trying to improve at the sport. I’m not going to play competitively from now on (unless I go to grad school and join their team) so there’s no point in drilling and conditioning.  I’m going to concentrate on long distance running and working off my flabby abbys.

It’s gettin’ late and I have work tomorrow so buenos noches!

Superbowl day

Yay, the Superbowl is today!  I’m not excited for the game… I’m excited for the PARTY.  I still don’t know how football is played, the rules and all that jargon.  Football shmutball…

This past weekend was one big drink-fest.  We had a planned party at our house on Friday and then an impromptu one last night.  Chhay brought all his friend over from his beach party and we played beer pong.  I’m beer pong champion!!  It was my first time playing it and it was FUN.  Well, fun and messy.  I think our hardwood floors have a few dried puddles of beer so I need to get a mop of some kind so our house doesn’t smell like yeast.

So today, the Superbowl party is at Nancy and I-ning’s house.  It’s their first time hosting it since they had Nathan.  I can’t wait to see how much he’s grown- he’s almost 1 year old.  It seems like yesterday that Nancy first told me she’s pregnant.   In the meantime, I’m going to finish some homework and study.  I’ve been slacking all week long and now I’m going to pay for it.

Busy month

Gosh, this month has been busy.  I’ve started a blog entry 3 times but I never go to finish.  I’ve been getting very little sleep too.  Just wanted to check in and say I’m still alive and kicking it.  I’m in class right now so I’m going to go back to paying attention…

Uh oh

I have a great trip planned out this 3-day weekend.  My roommies and I are going to take a road trip to the Grand Canyon to take in the sights and soak up the culture.  However, I think I developed a small problem last night…

My throat hurts.

Weekend update

Yay, weekend! I have really learned to appreciate the weekend ever since starting work. Next time I start a new job, I’m definitely going to ask for at least a 2 week period in between ending my old job and starting a new job. Last night, Vic and a few other people came to our bachelor(rette) pad and partied like its 2007. I had quite a lot to drink but I didn’t wake up in the most horrible condition. For the record, I’m not a lightweight for an Asian girl- I’m 5′5″ and not exactly very skinny (not obese though!), a good amount of muscle mass (I attempt to work out everyday) and good genetics when it comes to metabolizing alcohol. I don’t get the Asian glow and I’ve hurled only twice in my drinking career- I’ve learned not to take Bacardi 151 when already feeling drunk and also that Patron can be deadly. Phew… those were not good times. Anyhow, I had a lot last night and slept 3 am, woke up at 9:30. I find it really difficult to sleep when I drink… I guess I should drink every weekday to help me wake up in the morning for work, huh? Lol… well I have done that on occasion.

My day consisted of watching 5 straight episodes of season 2 of Lois and Clark on DVD. I love that show! I was so excited when I got the complete 4 seasons in the mail. I’m watching the series in order and I’m impatient to get to the part where Lois and Clark finally hook up. I’m so sad the series was canceled- I remember watching that show every Sunday. I had to finish my Chinese school homework or else my mom wouldn’t let me. I hated Chinese school homework but I love L&C so I did it. I guess L&C is the reason why I’m able to read a Chinese comic book…

Besides watching TV all day long, Dave and I headed to Costco to pick up some essentials. Since we were in the neighborhood, we went to the Hyundai dealership to check out the Santa Fe SUV. He’s been thinking about getting that car for the longest time so we went to test drive it and talk to a salesman. I would say that the experience was better than my other experiences with car salesmen- he was nice enough without being too pushy. At least he let us walk out the door without a fight. The car was pretty darn nice- Dave wants the fully loaded limited all wheel drive. Ever since we came home, he’s been staring at the brochure and comparing it to my car so I think he’s impressed. I love my Toyota Highlander better! :D It’s not fully loaded but it was already pretty darn expensive. Getting my car fully loaded would be 15k more expensive than what I already paid so no thanks. Once Dave gets the car, we’re probably going to take more road trips. Fun! We’re already planning a roommie trip to the Grand Canyon next week (we’re taking my beautiful, wonderful, big car) on the 3-day weekend. I love my roommies. <3

The dentist trip I had on Wednesday actually didn't go too badly. I had ZERO cavities! I was really surprised because I eat a lot of sweets and I haven’t gone to the dentist in a long time. Unfortunately, I had the opposite problem of cavities… I brush my teeth too much so my gums are not happy. I need to go back to the dentist in 2 weeks to get white filling for that problem and a deep cleaning where they stick that damn pick 3-4 mm into your gums… so painful that they numb you beforehand. :( I’m not looking forward to that… but at least I don’t have cavities.

Dave is watching the San Jose Sharks hockey team kick ass right now.  After the game, we’re going to go to the gym and work our butts off… haha… yea right.  :D

Why don’t I get January 2nd off?

Welcome to a New Year!  I’m at work today and when I was typing the date, accidently put 2006.  It gets me every year, darnit.  Work is very chill today, nothing much to do.  A lot of places are still closed today… so I’m bitter.  We at least get a half day… I’m off at 2:30.  Can’t wait to go home and waste time watching TV.

I took the extra time available at work to make a dentist appointment for tomorrow.  So I’m going to suffer in the Chair of Death for an hour… I don’t look forward to it at all.  I haven’t been to the dentist in 2 years so this will be an especially painful visit.  I’ve been having irritating gum problems though… it hurts to brush my teeth.  The problem came back yesterday which prompted me to make the appointment as soon as possible.  I hope nothing’s wrong with me.  :(

Besides the dentist, I think I need to make another appointment with a doctor to get my eyes checked out.  I had an eye infection back in June and it cleared up for awhile.  But ever since that incident, my eyes have been really red from time to time, especially when I wake up in the morning or when I’m really tired.  It might also be because I get about 5 hours of sleep per night.  I’m very unhealthy.  :(  I used to be able to sleep for hours and hours… I would wake up at 1 pm on a weekend.  It’s now come to the point that my body is used to not getting a lot of sleep so I wake up at 10 am on a weekend.  A weekend!  That’s unheard of in Carolineland.  :P  I think this is because of my 7am-4pm work schedule… but that’s going to change soon.  When my coworker takes her maternity leave, my schedule will hopefully change to 8:30-5.  This means I can go to the gym late at night with my roommies and not be dead tired in the morning.  Dave starts at 8:30 and Chhay can go into the office any time he wants to so I was always the one who got screwed on sleep when we went to the gym together… sometimes we would come home after 11 and I take girly (translation: long) showers.  Anyhow, hopefully the new schedule will be implemented soon.

43 minutes until I get off work… but who’s counting?  :D
